In conjunction with the crisis of oil products in the province of Hadramout and the rest of the provinces, Dar al-Ma’arif for Research and Statistics launched a new study entitled “the increase of the prices of oil products and its social and service impact in Hadramout governorate” . The director of the Department of Research and Statistics at al-Dar Pro. Abdullah bin Guth, said that the study targeted various areas of Hadramout province and aims to measure the people opinion about this increase and its impact on solving the problems of stability of oil products and electricity, in addition to their social impact on personal and family expenses. The study, which consisted of three parts, concluded that most of the participants in this study gave a negative view of the desired result of the current rise in prices of oil derivatives to solve the problems facing the availability and stability of oil products and electricity. It did not exceed the satisfaction rate 24.8%. The best satisfaction rate registered by citizens that the increase in the prices of oil products may solve the problem of the long wait at fuel stations reached 35.5% and only 21.4% of citizens believe that the high prices of oil products can provide a solution to the problem of the availability of oil products at the fuel stations in the short term (six months to a year). While only 17.9% agree that this increase of the prices can provide a solution to the long-term (more than one year). The study pointed out that the most pessimistic of this is that only 19.9% of citizens believe that this increase in the prices of oil products will solve the problem of power cuts, which means that the majority (80%) see otherwise, but 30% agree that Increased prices of oil products may ease the smuggling of oil products outside the province. On the social impact, 70% of the respondents agreed that this increase in prices directly affected their household expenses in general, and doubly affected the cost of moving from home to their place of work or study, and 57.6% agreed that the increase in the prices of oil products made them reduce their expenses over fast-food. The study concluded with many conclusions and recommendations summarized that the increase in the prices of oil products, which have been implemented in the coast of Hadramout since March 2018, negatively affected the lives of citizens, especially their family expenses and the cost of transportation . The results also showed that citizens have a pessimistic view that any increase in prices of oil products will not solve the problems of the availability of oil products or problems of power cuts. The study concluded its recommendation to the local authority and the oil company in the coast of Hadramout to comprehensively study the reasons and solutions of the problems of instability of oil products and electricity before making any decision to increase prices because that is not the only reason and not the only solution.
